BATIK

The works above are a selection of 6 portraits out of 14. These pieces are a great example of visual and material research using guidelines from my visual world. The illustrations have become specimens documented from this world. For these particular fabrics I had to figure out how to frame them without them losing their materiality. I was looking for a way to maintain the feeling of wanting to touch them, maybe even accentuate it. I am currently working on pinning the pieces onto foam, a minimal invasive measure on the delicate fabrics. The touch element remains whilst also framing the work. The specimens turn into objects, functional and presentable.
