Hi, my name is Isa Dahan. I am a multidisciplinary artist from Amsterdam. The core of my artistic practice is visual design. Guided through three pillars; shape, form and texture, I focus my obsession and interest into works and projects. This results in a (un)conscious guideline that I follow during any process, whether it is for an applied work or self initiated, resulting in a clear visual language throughout.
During my studies at Rietveld Academie and Tama University I started to document everything and anything around me that worked within this visual language. Adapting certain parts towards assignments, whilst also collecting a massive archive of imagery to work with.
The textural element of my practice comes forward most clearly in my affinity for textiles, textiles I collect, photograph but also to use and upcycle. My graduation work “Stuffed” is a clear example. My textile obsession coincides with my overall need to collect.
This is where a maybe secret fourth pillar comes to the surface, nostalgia or memories. By collecting textiles but also objects and even photographs I create a non traditional map. A map of my thoughts and memories, of my friends & my family. Inspired by this map and the world I have collected around me, I create my works.
I translate my world into drawings, paintings & sculptures to connect the dots, to combine my obsessions and interest, to explore the complexity of the world around us, its beauty and its ugliness.
To keep a better overview of my research/archive I organise, select, arrange, document & publish most of my imagery (found or made) on my Instagram account @isadahan. I view this page as my personal magazine, a peek inside my brain.
